There is nothing extraordinary in this drama yet it will give you content, it will heal you and it will comfort you. It’s not only about making time for yourself, it’s also about coming out of a trauma. The changes are gradual and slow. But trust the healing process because it’s very satisfying.Plot: A woman(FL) decided to make time for what is important for her own mental health and happiness. There she meets different kinds of people who teach her many things about life. The story also has a little bit of suspense/ thriller plot but it’s just a space filling kind of thing which in my opinion is not even needed.Yim Si Wan: His calm voice is itself a therapy. Even though he had a traumatic childhood, he is still a sweet, loving and caring gentleman. He is shy and introverted but happy in his own world.Kim Seol Hyun: The FL did a good job transitioning from being tired and depressed to someone who embraces life living slowly and happily.Summer Strike also taught me that being soft and polite is not a bad thing. You don’t have to be an ambitious person. You should just accept yourself as you are and what you need. Just know your needs. This is a fresh take on living your own life and finding genuine happiness.I really hope more people discover this drama, it’s just too good to ignore.
I really enjoyed this drama. Who has never dreamed of leaving the soulless life in a big city behind and escape to the countryside and do nothing? I love seeing how the friendship develop between the female lead and people in her new town but in my opinion don’t think the huge shock late in the show was necessary for the storyline. The protagonists already have a sufficiently tough life as it is and I personally don’t think we needed a tragedy of such magnitude for the show to demonstrate how they survive adversity and overcome yet another hurdle. Plus it takes away time and focus from the romance, which I like even though it was very timid and of a very slow pace. The ending is fortunately not overly dramatic but believable and uplifting. In retrospect, the story only lasted the short time of a summer in our characters’ lives but we are happy they found each other and came out strong, ready for the future, together.
It’s been a while since I liked a drama enough to take time to review.I usually don’t like “feel good-piece of life” shows. Il always feels like I was scammed somehow. I think the reason why I watched, in all honesty, is the male lead. OMG I find him cute. He’s as cute as a puppy hugging a kitten. His hair style helps a lot. Those fair long curls made him look like a painting of the Madonna. His being so quiet and new to everything, made me want to protect and console him. I just loved his looks and his… moseube (don’t know how to say that in English, demeanor?) Anyway. Without him, I wouldn’t have watched.Still. I’m very grateful for the story itself. At some point, it really felt like I was on a vacation on the countryside. I felt relaxed and happy for a few very rare and very precious minutes. I laughed my head off at the joke about the chicken (Dae-Bom sayin’ “Na Gwenchana”, I’m still laughingXD)I can’t say I cried, although it seemed like I should have. I didn’t have enough empathy for the characters. There were no butterflies either, no chemistry between the leads. Having said that I liked their love, so innocent, so simple, so realistic without any of those silly reasons why they can’t be together. Admitedly, I’m sick of “Your father’s friend was mean to my cousin, twenty years ago, so you and I can never be a couple” stuff like that. There were hardships, but they never tried to run away, as if they knew they just couldn’t be without each other. Finally, I want to stress that this was a nice lesson, that I already knew, but still. One is never a pushover or a loser. One has to find their way and place in this world. Ending up in a remote place earning just enough to live by is not wasting one’s life or time. Quite the contrary. Life is short enough to just be who you are and do what you want, as long as you don’t hurt anybody. Yes, there is a difference between succeeding IN life, and succeding ONE’s life. Imho.
